Sc getdisplayname

Gets the display name associated with a particular service.

Syntax

	$lib:\\scgetdisplayname.bmp$ Copy Code
sc [<ServerName>] getdisplayname [<ServiceName>] [<BufferSize>]

Parameters

Parameter	Description
<ServerName>	Specifies the name of the remote server on which the service is located. The name must use the Universal Naming Convention (UNC) format (for example, \\myserver). To run SC.exe locally, omit this parameter.
<ServiceName>	Specifies the service name returned by the getkeyname operation.
<BufferSize>	Specifies the size (in bytes) of the buffer. The default buffer size is 1,024 bytes.
/?	Displays help at the command prompt.

Examples

To get the display name associated with the TAPISRV service, type:

	$lib:\\scgetdisplayname1.bmp$ Copy Code
sc getdisplayname tapisrv

Output similar to the following is displayed:

	$lib:\\scgetdisplayname2.bmp$ Copy Code
[SC] GetServiceDisplayName SUCCESS Name = Telephony

To get the display name associated with the SHAREDACCESS service, type:

	$lib:\\scgetdisplayname3.bmp$ Copy Code
sc getdisplayname sharedaccess

Output similar to the following is displayed:

	$lib:\\scgetdisplayname4.bmp$ Copy Code
[SC] GetServiceDisplayName SUCCESS Name = Internet Connection Sharing (ICS)

$lib:\\scgetdisplayname5.bmp$ Note

If sc getdisplayname cannot find the specified service, the following error message is displayed:

	$lib:\\scgetdisplayname6.bmp$ Copy Code
[SC] GetServiceDisplayName FAILED 1060: The specified service does not exist as an installed service.
